Hello,
I have a 6'Wildernest for sale, currently on my 2007 Toyota Tacoma. It has the forest green tent which is cool.
I know some of the history of this particular nest through finding things on the internet.
I am selling because I realize it is not the best solution for camping on weekends when we are skiing at Lookout Pass or Schweitzer. I am looking for an option more like a4WheelCamper style.
I will attach photos below, but here are my observations of the camper after some nights of camping in it:
The tent is in very good condition for its age and is relatively taut when set up. There were a couple small pinholes which one of the previous owners fixed with what looks like tenacious tape. Currently using metal poles to support the tent roof, I believe they originally came with pliable fiberglass poles, If I were to keep the Wildernest I would buy some pliable aluminum tent poles to support the roof a bit better, they would be easier to set up than the current ones and you could use a few of them to support more places on the roof like the 8ft bed Wildernest came with.
We have not camped in rain with the Wildernest yet, but I did sit inside while it was sprayed with a very steady stream of the hose for multiple minutes, all water beaded and fell off immediately. The fabric did get a little looser when exposed to steady water spray, though this is to be expected with the tent material. The tent Material dried off very fast in the dry Spokane air. I did leave the roof support pole off and let some water pool in the roof and left it for 24hours and the water did not seep through, so its suffice to say the tent is pretty waterproof. I imagine one of the previous owners re-waterproofed the tent.
The tent material surprisingly does not smell bad, and does not have much in the way of mildew on the fabric, definitely can see some when sitting inside though. (see photos).
The small side screens do have tears and are missing the L brackets that hold them up.
Tent Hammock for when the Nest is closed is in good condition and holds the tent up well. (See Photos)
All windows are in good condition aside from one of the small sliding ones that faces the cab, which has been replaced with Plexiglass. I would venture to guess all other windows are original
The structure itself is in good condition, there has been some fiberglass reinforcement added in the area of the rear spring and above the rear window on the passenger side, in the owner from 2017's post they talked about some "spidering" in the fiberglass, I believe this is where they were referring to. Also a small amount of extra reinforcement over the top of the final hinge back. (Photos Below)
No issue or crackling sound when opened and laying up top, even when weight is centered with no mattress below you. I have no reason to believe there has been any water ingress in the area you would sleep on or anywhere else.
There are older style Yakima racks with keys that I have removed but will be reattached as time of sale. Very easy to remove and add, as the mounting plates stay on the Wildernest. The hardware attaching the Yakima racks has been replaced recently as it is pretty shiny and new looking.
The Wildernest walls do "Walk Out" at the back like others have had issues with. My solution like others is to use a ratchet strap to tighten the back walls together before tightening to the bed. I have to redo this every few times I open the tent as I am using clamps to attach it to my bed, but if you were to bolt the nest to your truck bed I don't think this would need repeated.
The rear hatch is a bit loose at the upper attachment point, many of the rivets have seen better days, If I were to keep the nest for the long term I would drill out and re-rivet the upper part of the rear window hinge. The hinge itself is in great condition, it is just the rivets that have an issue.
No key for the T handle, but it does work on my 2nd gen, the interior rivets for the T handle are shot as well, I will most likely add some bolts to keep the rear-plate in place as it is an easy job. The T handle works as intended though.
No Mattress is included, 6 mounting clamps will be included.
Asking $1800, located in Spokane, WA willing to travel within the local area to meet. Also may be able to meet anywhere between Spokane, WA and San Jose, CA during Thanksgiving week for a fee. Small possibility we drive the truck back to Western North Carolina during Christmas instead of flying if we have someone who is very serious about buying.

- In 2017 a guy bought in Bellingham, WA. He did some work to it, from what I can see he replaced the main 2 screens, replaced the hinges, then painted with bed-liner, I imagine they are the ones who fabricated the new poles to go between the top support and sides when the tent is open, May have added new bulb seal, looks like it could be around 5 years old, from the photos on his Tacomaworld post they also worked on making the tent more taut and fixed it a bit. - www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wildernest-revamp.517203/#post-22285880
- In 2020 someone found it on Facebook Marketplace over near Bellingham and brought it back across the state to Spokane on his 2007 Tacoma. Not sure what work they did on the Nest. www.tacomaworld.com/threads/show-me-your-shell.13598/page-444#post-25637262
- In 2021 someone bought the previous guy's truck with the Nest included, he used it for a while while in college in Montana before deciding to sell it.
- I bought it in 2022 near Cheney, Washington from the previous owner.
