Hello folks - The rear lift spring on my 6' Wildernest just broke, so I'm planning to have a replacement made. Is anyone else interested in getting in on a group order? It's cheaper if we can have a bunch made at once - apparently about $100/each if we order 4, and even cheaper if we order more. Front and rear springs are not interchangeable. There is a lot more discussion about this topic on this thread: expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/replacement-wildernest-spring.42999/page-6I'm planning to take my broken spring to the shop in Denver early next week, but it will take a couple of months to have them made. Please let me know if you're interested - I will probably only order 4 unless I get a lot of interest real soon. Thanks!

Howdy Nesters! Bumping this thread because I have new lifter springs in hand, fabricated by AAAA Specialties in Denver. These are the rear lifter springs for a 6' Wildernest. Look right inside your rear window on the right side and you will see what I'm talking about (or maybe not if yours are missing...). A pic of my broken spring is attached. I had a set of 5 made, which means I have 4 to sell. I'm selling them for $100/each plus $20 for shipping, which basically just covers my costs. Please contact me through the forum if you're interested. Happy to answer questions, and there's a lot more information on an Expedition Portal page that I linked to in my previous post too.

I can't say whether or not all Wildernests have them. I do notice the springs (there are 2, at the front and back) provide some lift when first opening the top, and especially take some of the weight as you open it to keep the top from crashing open. Some pics of my installed rear spring are attached, the front springs are in the same position at the front right corner.

I am almost positive all Wildernest that open 180, have springs. The springs are in neutral position at half way open. They help lift when opening and closing. Yes, they also help to slow the lid before getting to full open position.
I have never broken one but bought spares when they were offered before. I prefer not to deal with opening and closing without the help of the springs.

Hi Nesters - Bumping this thread to see if anyone wants some of these lift springs. If you need some encouragement I would point out:
1) We're all driving around 20+ year old campers, and metal fatigue is a real thing. Your springs are going to break eventually, maybe you want a replacement for when that happens?
2) I'm no engineer, but given that Wildernests were designed to use lift assist springs, I feel like they have to be taking the stress off of some other parts. Plus they really do make it easier to open and close the top.
3) The lead time to get these springs created was ~4 months. The spring shop in Denver I used (AAAA Specialties) was GREAT to deal with, and they had fabbed these springs before, but they are a little shop surrounded by giant highrise apartments and they aren't going to be there forever (although I love places like that and I hope they ARE around forever).
4) I'm sitting on several hundred dollars of very specific tooling here. Help a brother out?
You can reply to this thread or direct message me (I think). Thanks!
