Need a little removable shelf for your phone, beer, or whatever? This little guy will fit on top of the spring and spring mount housing. I used 1/2" plywood, 10" wide x @ 34" long and notched out for the main vertical pole, spring housing, and bed rail.

This little notch helps snug it right up to the bed rail. On the other end, drilled a small hole and tapped in a small piece of copper tubing as a sleeve for the 1/16" cable that will support it off the vertical pole. Crimped a ferrule and added heat shrink as a stop. The male fastex clip will jack into the existing female end mounted above the sliding window to help keep her in place. I added a little moulding to keep stuff from sliding off and that little extra piece on the back will rest on the small ledge just above the sliding window, also to help keep her solid. Here a shot from underneath.

The other end of the cable attaches to the main vertical support in one of the existing holes via a clevis pin, cotter pin, and another crimped ferrule covered in heat shrink. I got everything at Home Depot.

A couple of coats of stain/poly later and here she is: Dad and I had fun with this; we work well together.

Great idea if you don't have the net organizer that hangs down into that area. I use my organizer for many things and don't plan on giving it up anytime soon. I do have plans to modify the carpet insert to have more enclosed storage and shelf space. One shelf would be across the front that has room to store my sleeping bag and air mattress under it, when travelling. I just need some time to build it.
